At times travelling around the world in our LandRover Defender 110, making sure we got diesel instead of gasoline was always a highlight of the day, with so many differing names and languages for diesel we would use a plastic cover printed with a collection of Diesel Only terms from English to Portuguese to Arabic to Afrikaans which worked a treat with many thumbs up from the attendants. Problem with the plastic cover was it was always easy to forget and the number of times we’ve had to turn back to find it left sat on top of the pump, well so say it happened a lot would be an understatement. One benefit of the cover became evident on our Cape Town to London trip, the almost inevitable diesel spill around the filler neck would become caked in dust, with the cover fitted the cap would be free of debris and potential for sand and grit getting into the fuel reduced as well as keeping your hands cleaner. Traveling through Ethiopia along muddy roads the cover also kept the mud out of the filler recess.
Getting back to the UK is always a time to reflect on what worked on the Landy and what didn’t. The cover did actually work well apart from it wasn’t secured and offer no additional security as it was only a push fit, so the Defender FillerGuard™ was born. FillerGuard™ requires no drilling no alteration to your truck and can be fitted in minutes.
